Where are you keeping your New Year’s Resolutions? How about in a handmade journal where you can jot down your thoughts, when you had successes, when things didn’t quite go the way you planned, dreams, hopes, funny moments. It is your journal, you can fill it with anything you wish. I hope that my journal inspires us to create a vintage style journal using the new 7gypsies Ordre du Jour collection.
This is also a piece that was on Canvas Corps booth on CHA 2016.
With so many great planner and agenda collections out there, but none of them had a vintage vibe, so the gypsies got together and created one that is so fun to work with. The papers and embellishments are filled with journaling tasks, notes and artwork, beautiful fabrics printed on paper and many other yummy details. To see the collection stop over to the shop – Ordre du Jour By the way Ordre du Jour is french and means order of the day. So whether you plan to keep a daily journal, art journal or create a planner, now you can do so gypsy stye.
Irit here: I am excited to share my vintage journal. It can easily be transformed into a planner, personal journal, place to hold important receipts, or even an art journal. I am going to use mine for a ‘kind of ” plan without dates” thing.’
Step 1: Cover 2 chipboard pieces with Ordre du Jour paper from the 8″x8” pad. Cover the oval book cover with another paper as shown. Choose a round or oval chipboard shape, die cut your own or make an embellishment to accent the front of the book heat emboss the chipboard with a mix of black and gold embossing powder.
Step 2: Cover the front and back of 2 pieces of chipboard that will become the book binding with your favorite papers from the 8×8 paper pad. Then cover your file folders with other papers form the pad, they are great to mix and match creating a very eclectic journal. Paper bags are great for holding recipes, recipes and special notes. You can add the printed cardstock to the front which also gives the paper bag some additional strength.
Step 3: Add sayings hand cut from the paper over the tabs of the file folders. These become the tabs in your book, so choose the words that best describe the type of book you are making.
Step 4: Cut the flaps from 4 envelopes to fit the file folders and glue them inside the folders as shown.
Step 5: Embellish your book covers by adding paint or gold shimmer. Then to make the binding, use folded cardstock pieces and cover the spine with grungeboard. Paint the board with Ebony Decor & DIY Paint. Here your can see the back of the binded book. You can distress the board to make it look old.
Step 7: Add the oval book cover to the front of your book and then color the silver bird cage with gold paint, arrange inside the oval window on the cover and cover with Glossy Accents. Add 2 golden brads over the embossed frame and glue the frame over the cover. Heat emboss both covers from both sides with gold embossing powder.
Step 8: Bind in your folders and bags into the book with glue or stitches them into place. Add your own stamped sayings, vintage accents, journal pages, etc. inside the book
Have fun creating your own journal, agenda or “non-planner/planner”, you can use your creation anyway you wish.
